Background

Dairy Farmers’ Network (DAFAN) is an association that is registered as a business name under the Business names registration act cap 109.Cap.110. It has a membership of over 300 dairy farmers with 38 registered members and development partners in the cold chain management who offer training technical assistance. The Network currently operates mainly in the peri-urban districts of the central region of Uganda but it has projections of operating in other regions of the country. It has formed seven clusters that are located in Gayaza, Mukono, Kayunga, Buikwe, Mpigi, Entebbe road and Kakiri in Wakiso district. This will help in setting up milk collection centres in our respective zones which will help the farmers get better prices for their milk and easy access to many dairy farming products.

• During the 1½ years of DAFAN’s existence, it has made a tremendous growth with a membership of 38 registered members/farms and over 300 affiliated members.
• The registration fee per member/farm is Shs. 150,000/=
• The annual subscription fee is Shs. 100,000/=.
• Registered members shall be given DAFAN Identification cards.
• DAFAN plans to introduce the more profitable jersey breed of cows.
