BACKGROUND
The Dairy Farmers’ Network (DAFAN) was established in February 2015 and subsequently registered as an association under the Uganda Business names registration act cap 109.Cap.110. It has a membership of over 250 dairy farmers with 81 registered members and development partners in the cold chain management who offer training technical assistance.
The Network currently operates mainly in the peri-urban districts of the central region of Uganda and it has projections of operating in other regions of the country. It has, so far, formed clusters that are located in Gayaza, Mukono, Kayunga, Buikwe, Mpigi – Gomba, Nakaseke, Fort portal, Luweero, Seguku and Kakiri. The clusters will help in setting up milk collection centres in their respective zones which, will in turn help the farmers get better prices for their milk as well as facilitate easy access to many dairy farming requirements.
